Abstract
8713. Huguenin, A. April 12, 1911, [Convention date]. Balancing moving parts.-Rotors for centrifugal pumps and compressors of the type wherein the blades are mounted on one side of the rotor disk are so constructed that the generating-line A B C, Fig. 1, of the medical section of the rotor disk a is oblique to the axis x, x to an extent such that the bending strains due to the action of centrifugal force on the blades b and on the disk a substantially neutralize each other. In small disks and in disks which do not rotate at a very high speed, the generating line ABC is straight, but in high speed disks the medial line A B C is curved away from the side carrying the blades so that the inclination of the line A B C to the normal A C, increases as it approaches the periphery of the disk. The blades b, Fig. 3, are preferably of T section, and may be screwed or riveted to the disk. Considering the centrifugal bending strains produced at any cylindric section y, y of the rotor, let the centre of gravity of that portion of the blade lying outside this cylindric section be at the point S1, and the centre of gravity of that portion of the disk section lying outside the cylindric section be at the point S2. The centrifugal force at unit angular velocity on the portion of blade in question is F1 acting at the point S, and on the portion of the rotor is F2 acting at the point S2, and the inclination of the medial line A B C is such that the moments of the forces above the point B are equal.
