Propelling; planes, construction of; aerial machines without aerostats. - The ordinary sustaining-surfaces of aeroplanes are replaced by revolving wheels or drums a with axes in the line of flight and with or without helical blades k, Fig. 4, on their outer surfaces. When the blades k are not used, ordinary propellers f on the axes of the drums are employed. Each pair of drums and propellers is rotated in a direction opposite to that of the other pair by a motor e. The machine can move either forwards or backwards.
