Abstract

8005. Matthewson, E. G. April 3. Teaching rifle and gunnery practice. - Relates to shooting games, in which no projectile is employed, of the kind in which a sighting- gun is combined with a spring plunger which partakes of the angular movements of the sighting-gun and operates the aim - recording mechanism. The invention consists in combining with such apparatus a baffle-plate fixed in front of the spring plunger in such a way that the plunger is unable to actuate any part of the mechanism unless it is alined with one of a number of holes in the plate. The invention is shown applied to a model artillery duel in which a gun and a crew of four men on one side of the apparatus are opposed to a similar force on the other side. Linked to each gun 78, in such a manner as always to remain parallel to it, is a tube 82, Fig. 7, containing a spring plunger 104. Below the apparatus are two fixed plates 37, Fig. 5, each pierced with four apertures corresponding to the four figures of the opposing gun crew. When the gun is correctly aimed at a figure, and the trigger is pulled, the spring plunger 104 enters the corresponding hole in the plate and knocks up a lever 38, which is so connected to the figure that it falls. Instead of an artillery duel, a small-arm duel between individual figures may be represented, or the model men may be re-- placed by boats. The gun is combined with coin-freed apparatus in which the coin action is similar to that described in Specification 9731/96, [Class 27, Coin-freed apparatus &c.], and the manner of returning one of the two coins used is similar to that described in Specification 14,484/99, [Class 27, Coin-freed apparatus &c.].
