Abstract
6913. Riedemann, J. March 20. Stream - cutting machines. - In automatic brick-cutting machines having a reciprocating cutting-carriage z, positively actuated, the carriage is reciprocated from the main shaft g by a crank w and spring connecting-rod y so that it may remain stationary at either end of its travel; and the oscillating cutting-frame r is operated by a rock-shaft u, mounted upon the stationary part of the machine and connected to the cutting-frame through togglelinks 9, so that the cutting-frame is operated independently of the movement of the carriage. The stream of clay a passes over rollers b on the carriage z and impinges against a forwardlyinclined flap c, which it turns into the vertical position. The flap e is connected by a balljointed link d<1> and lever d, Fig. 4, to a shaft f carrying a stop f normally in the path of a clutch device h, but turned aside on the movement of the flap, allowing the clutch to drive. A continuously-driven pulley m carries a series of rollers l, Figs. 4 and 15, adapted to engage the clutch member h, which is turned into the path of the rollers by a spring i and is mounted on a gear 14 connected to the main shaft g through reducing-gearing 15, 16, 20. Camdisks s, s<1> mounted upon the shaft g operate the shaft u and cutting-frame r through a lever t. In operation, after the release of the clutch, the cutting-frame is first oscillated to sever the clay into bricks; the carriage then moves forwards under the influence of the connecting-rod y until it reaches a stop 1, in which position the cut bricks are removed; finally the carriage is returned, the cutting-frame being also reversed. During the descent of the cutting- frame, the flap e is turned into the horizontal position owing to the cutting-frame engaging a projecting part thereof. As the cutting-frame ascends, it lifts the flap, which is turned into the normal forwardly-inclined position by a counterweight. To prevent dropping of the crank w when in the position shown in Fig. 15, the gear 14 is furnished with a disk 29 formed with ratchet teeth 29<1>, which are engaged by a weighted pawl 29"; the crank is also counterbalanced by a weight 30 secured to the disk. The clutch may be disengaged at any time by a sliding bar 25, Fig. 1, connected to a lever 21 operated by hand or foot. The clutch and gearing are enclosed in a casing 27, Fig. 4. formed at the bottom as an oil-bath 28.
