Washing-machines with beating or squeezing apparatus.-The clothes are washed in the tub a by means of pressers n suspended from rocking- arms m mounted on an inclined spindle i. This spindle, ball-socketed at its lower end, is caused to generate a cone by means of gearing d and a crank c, and also to rotate on its axis through a bevel-wheel l gearing with a fixed wheel j. The arms m are pivoted at q and are normally held at right-angles to the spindle by springs p. The pressers are connected by a rod w aud are attached to the arms by a swivel r and a sleeve t which is capable of limited rotation on the arm. In a modification, the spindle passes through the cone k, is actuated by gearing at its lower end, and carries the arms m at its upper extremity.
