Abstract

6259. Spielman, A. March 13. Cutting-appliances.-Relates to the type of electrically-driven cutters for fabrics and the like in which knives in the form of an endless chain are employed. The knives have sloping cutting-edges and slit-open shanks which are clamped together by separate rings after the knives have been coupled by closed links. The train thus formed is driven by a motor 25, Fig. 1, which gives motion to the sprocket-wheel 30. The chain is tensioned by passing around the wheels, one of which is seen at 32 and is capable of being moved away from its fellow. The knives pass down the pillow 19, and, after being deflected around a curved guide 41, Fig. 6, at the foot of the pillar, pass around the pulley 40 and then over a guide 43 and up the pillar side bv side with the descending chain, but a little behind it. The descending knives which do the cutting alone project from the pillar. The tool carries an electric lamp 63 and a spring presser-foot 57. The main foot 11 of the apparatus is fitted with track rollers 14, and the tapered piece 10 that passes beneath the fabric is hinged to the foot 11 but has stops to limit its upward motion. The tool is guided by a handle 2.
