Abstract

Vertical-cutter type for cutting sheet material in the direction of feed.-Cutting-apparatus for trimming the edges or selvedges of felts, carpets, and similar textile fabrics, and for cutting up piece goods into strips or webs or the like comprises a disk cutter A and a fixed cutter S, the cutters being hollow ground and mounted to give a shearing cut and to be self - sharpening. The fixed cutter S is mounted on a spring arm T on the bracket D carrying the rotary cutter. The cutters are adjusted by screws U and hand-wheels V. The shaft P is driven by a belt, and a pulley N for driving each cutter A is keyed on the shaft U so that it may adapt itself to the position of the cutter pulley F. The fixed cutter is provided with an insertion of hardened tool steel for preserving the cutting-edge and for the better sharpening of the rotary cutter. The apparatus may form part of a needling-machine.
