5972. Boult, A. J., [International Telechronometer Co.]. March 9. Counters of screw- and-nut type; zeroizing- mechanism.-For registering the charge for a telephone conversation, a screw 95 moving a nut 96 is rotated by means of a ratchet-wheel 86 and an electro-magnet 80 energized at equal intervals of time; at the end of a conversation the magnet 44 is energized and a retaining- pawl 88 removed from the ratchet-wheel, whereupon the screw 95 is reversed by a spring to return the registering-nut to zero. During this zeroizing-movement a series of current reversals corresponding to the amount registered is effected in the circuit of the subscriber's meter 6, which comprises a permanent magnet 120, the armature of which carries a coil inside a block of soft iron 124 on one pole of the magnet, and a pawl adapted to rotate a ratchet-wheel.
