5936. Bone, W. A., and McCourt, C. D. March 9. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-A heater for steamgenerators consists of a hearth of refractory material carrying a bed or layer of granular refractory material, in the interstices of which burns a combustible mixture of gas and air mixed in the proportion theoretically necessary for complete combustion. Fig. 1 shows a hearth 1, consisting of a fire-clay slab or group of tiles set in a metal carrier 3 to which the combustible mixture is supplied by a pipe 6. It issues from the carrier 3 through small bosses 9, and passes thence into the granular material on the hearth 1. Each boss or projection 9 may be surrounded by a fire-clay tube. The tray is preferably mounted on a sliding carriage, upon which it is pivoted at 14 and is adjusted by means of the segment 18. Specifications 25,808/09 and 29,430/09 are referred to,
