Abstract

4375. Early, S. C., and Early, H. S. Feb. 21. Rotary cylindrical valves. - The suction and delivery valves of an ammonia-gas compressor for refrigerating-machines consist of ported hollow cylinders 5 located in castings formed on the sides of the cylinder with the axes of the cylinders parallel to the axes of the compressor cylinder, the valves being supported in bearings, preferably ball bearings 7, at each end of their chambers. When, as shown, a single valve forms a combined suction and delivery valve, it is provided as usual with an axial partition 19. When the suction and delivery valves are separate they are located at opposite sides of the compressor cylinder. The valves may be rotated by simple toothed gearing, but are preferably rotated by elliptical-wheel toothed gearing so as to give a rapid opening and closing of the ports.
