Optical-projection apparatus.- Pictures, photographs, placards, &c. are suspended in horizontal or vertical guideways in a manner which enables them to be moved along intermittently. The immediate operating - means consists of reciprocating sliders. Worm gearing 9, 11 and bevel gearing drive disks 14 with studs 15, which reciprocate vertical slotted arms and attached slides 20 provided with catches 21. These move the pictures &c. from one end of a guideway to the middle and then on to the other end.. The groups of pictures &c. accumulated in the side guideways are moved by the thickness of a bearing by a projecting arm 38 whenever the shafts 31, 32 rotate and actuate the sliders 37 agaist the influence of their springs 39. The catches 21 are made to yield somewhat by being held in slots under the influence of a spring 24. A central illuminating-lantern with dimmed faces may illuminate the device. In apparatus with vertical guideways, sliders for moving the pictures are also used; but the pictures rest upon sets of bolts, Fig. 12, urged into the guideways by springs. Rotating cranks 55 reciprocate the sliders 61, each carrying a pair of spring-controlled bolts. The supporting-bolts on one side are forced back, and the pictures are lifted from the middle of the frame to the upper magazine, and from the lower magazine to the middle bolt respectively; while on the other side of the frame the sliding carrier pushes back specially controlled bolts in its upward journey and takes the pictures and lowers them to the central supporting-bolt and the lower magazine respectively. As the sliders approach the end of their travel they actuate spring-controlled levers 75 and cause a reciprocation of a slider to move a series of pictures by the thickness of a picture support along the magazines. To prevent the pictures from being pressed together when the actuation of the lever 75, Fig. 11, is too great, a sliding piece at the end of the lever is then removed out of contact with the projection 90 on the actuating-slider when a roller 88 engages a plane 89. The sliding pieces for moving the pictures may be actuated by chain gearing with projections on the chains. The pictures may be moved in connexion with an optical-projection apparatus.
