Abstract

3845. Mumford, R. Feb. 15. Reciprocating sieves; sieves with compound motion.-Relates to a brush device for cleaning the sieves of flour-sifters or reciprocating sieves of the kind wherein the movement of the sieve causes a loose brush to travel automatically step-by-step round a channel such as d formed in a tray by a centrally-arranged partition e. The brush device a is of a rigid character, its rear corners a<3>, which are free from bristles or other flexible members, co-operating with the walls of the channel, whereby when a gyratory movement is given to the tray, it shifts from side to side, each of its rear corners acting alternately as a fulcrum. The frame tapers towards the front end, which is preferably weighted as at b, and curved. Bristles c are provided. In the case of a longitudinally reciprocating sieve, the brush device moves forward step-by-step, the end walls of the channel contacting with it and turning it round the corners. According to the Provisional Specification, the rear corners of the brush device may be provided with bristles.
