Abstract

3703. Paterson, W. Feb. 14. Ironing machines with pressing action only; tables and like work-supports for.-Condensed steam, derived from the wet starch of shirts &c. that are to be hot-pressed, is drained from the stationary felt beds by means of an ejector or suction pump. Steam is supplied to the upper movable steamheated pressing-beds, shown in plan in Fig. 3, by supply pipes A and branch connexions B, C, and the extraction of the condensed steam is effected through pipes E, F between the lower sides of the pressing-heads and a discharge pipe D. The lower felt-beds B', C', Fig. 2, are swung into position to support fixedly the work under pressure, and have ducts I communicating with the interior of the chambers by pipes L, L<1>, the upper surface of each bed, beneath the felt, being perforated. Steam passing into the ducts I passes through a reducing- valve J to a steam ejector valve, suitable connexions being provided to the upper discharge pipe D.
