Abstract

Actuating.-Relates to gas-stoves for heating soldering and laundry irons &c., of the type in which the gas is turned on and off automatically by the insertion and removal of the article. As shown in Fig. 2, a sliding striking-plate e, mounted to slide over the burner a, is engaged and thrust forwards by the tool &c. c and operates the gas-cock i through link connexions g, h. A spring or, as shown, a weighted lever f<1> serves to return the striking-plate e and close the gas-cock when the iron is removed. The gas supply is adjusted by a screwed stop m, and may be retained fully open by a hole r in the link g engaging a pin carried by a chain, as shown, or by the pivoted handle q of the stove engaging a notch g<1> in the link g, as shown in dotted lines. Two or more burners and striking-plates may be enclosed in one stove casing.
