Abstract
969. Rigby, T., and Testrup, N. Jan. 12. Fuel. - Powdered lignite for conversion into briquette fuel is dried and conveyed by a current of hot inert gas, such as flue gas. The powdered lignite from a mill c passes through a shaking sieve d into a distributing- device e, by which it is introduced into a rapid current of the flue gas in the flue f. The gas and suspended powder pass the fan g and enter a vertical flue h closed by a valve u. Aside branch leads to a set of cyclone separators j, which deposit the separated powder in a hopper k, the gas passing on by a flue m. The powder from the hopper k passes through a Schulze drier l, which is connected to the flue m by a branch n. The more completely dried material is introduced into the current of hot gas through a distributing-device v, and is carried through a duct s to a second series of separators o above a bunker p in connexion with a briquetting- press w. The gas leaves by a duct q and enters a tower r where it is scrubbed to recover the residual dust not separated by the cyclones. The powder from the Schulze drier may be conveyed to the press by a screw. A mass of iron or brickwork may be placed in the flue f to act as a thermal regulator.
