Ploughs.-In a motor plough, means are provided for adjustably and detachably connecting the plough beams to the frame, for raising the ploughs by hand and power, releasing them, and controlling their descent, for limiting their working depth, and for yieldingly holding them in position. The plough beams are detachably connected to a diagonal bar 15, Fig. 1, by the engagement of cross-pins in vertical grooves in brackets. Forked arms on a shaft 27 engage the pins so as to move them in the grooves, and thus adjust or disconnect the front ends of the beams 17, when the shaft 27 is rocked by means of worm gearing and a hand-wheel 30. The ploughs may be raised by moving a hand-lever 43, Fig. 7, and thus partly rotating a ropedrum by means of a rod 42, pawl 41, and ratchet-wheel 39. A rope wound on the drum passes round a drum 37 on a shaft 32 provided with drums 33, on which are wound ropes 34 connected to the ploughs. A dog 44 prevents opposite rotation of the drum. The ploughs may be raised by power by clutching the ropedrum to the driving-shaft 14 by means of a pedal 52, a rod 51, an arm 50, a cam, and a spring-controlled clutch. In the highest position, a plough beam engages a bell-crank lever 56 and thus disengages the clutch. The ploughs are lowered by means of a pedal 60, a slight movement of which disengages the dog 44 from the ratchet-wheel 39, while a further movement forces a brake shoe 62 into contact with a drum attached to the rope-drum. The downward movement of the ploughs is limited by a rope connected to the frame by a spring and wound on a drum 65 on the shaft 32, a clamp on the rope coming into engagement with an adjustable stop. The ploughs are yieldingly held in their operative positions by springs 77 which tend to rotate shafts 74 provided with arms 71 connected to the beams by links 72 which are provided with stops 75 to engage the arms 71. The springs are adjustably connected to arms on a shaft 80 which is adapted to be rocked by means of a lever 83.
