Liquid-fuel furnaces. -In a furnace for burning liquid and solid fuel, either separately or together, the burners m are fitted at the sides of the fire-door opening and are inclined towards one another, as shown. When liquid fuel alone is used, the rear portion of the grate is covered with fire - brick slabs f and a baffle-plate a is introduced into the ashpit to direct the incoming air to the firebridge before passing through the front portion of the grate. Additional openings g may be left in the firebrick covering f if desired. The air supply to the ash-pit is regulated by doors c, d above and below the baffle respectively, and to the combustion chamber by a door k controlling passages i in the fire-bridge. The burners project through tubes n controlled by dampers o and are connected to the supply pipes by a hinged clip and bolt. According to the Provisional Specification, the burners may be directed on to a conical baffle-column set on the grate.
