Abstract
28,682. Bruce, Peebles, & Co., and Brookhouse, F. G. Dec. 20. Alternating - current induction machines; brush-holders.-In slipring short-circuiting and brush - lifting mechanism for alternating- current induction machines, a sleeve F carrying the short-circuiting contacts E<1> is operated by a lever G, one end G<1> of which engages with the sleeve F, and the other end of which is actuated by a cam M which also carries a pin m<3> adapted, after the short - circuiting has been effected, to actuate the brush-lifting means. Each brush spindle Q carries a double-armed lever S loosely pivoted thereon. The lower arm carries a pin s which, when the lever S is turned clockwise by the pin m<3> engaging with the upper arm s<2>, raises the brushes from the slip-rings by engaging with the levers connecting the brushes to the suindle Q. The arms s<2> of the separate levers S are so connected together by levers that the movement of the one which engages with the pin m<3> is transmitted to the others. The brushes on each slip-ring are connected together by leads to a common cable. The cam M is mounted on an axis parallel with the rotor shaft B, and has an oblique slot m<1> engaging with the end g<4> of the lever G. The fulcrum y' of the lever G, the cam M, and the bosses h<3> supporting the brush spindles Q, are carried forward on one side of the brush-rocker casting H, which latter also carries the casing h<5>. The spindle m<2> of the cam M passes through the rocker H and is provided with an operating- handle O on the other side of the rocker.
