Abstract
28,233. Smith, W., and Parry, D. Dec. 15. Locking by positive detents.-The wheels of corves &c. are locked against backward rotation on an ascending track, or against forward rotation on a descending track, by sprag levers E, each of which is pivoted in a bracket B beneath the floor of the vehicle and is weighted at its inner end sufficiently to place it in the locking position. Two levers E are provided for each wheel, one on each side of the axle. Each lever is normally held clear of the wheels by a weighted arm M, mounted on a crossshaft P and bearing on the outer end of the lever. Two of the arms M, at diagonally opposite corners of the vehicle, are fixed to their shafts which are provided with hand-levers at their other ends. The other arms M are loosely mounted on their shafts .
