Sheafing or binding apparatus.-Harvesting and like machines are provided with special sheafcarriers adapted to receive a predetermined number of sheaves and then automatically and gently deliver them together upon the ground. The sheaf-carrier shown comprises curved tines f removably fastened to a spindle g, which is carried by brackets h detachably clamped on the main frame. The tines are normally held in position by an adjustable spring k, but are gradually depressed by the weight of the sheaves as they collect on it. The sheaves are pushed forward by the ejector tines n, and finally slide off together. The carrier may be depressed by hand by means of a chain p. The number discharged together may be varied by adjusting the spring k and changing the tines f. Counterweights may be substituted for the spring k, and a platform for the tines f. Hand or foot actuated mechanism may be provided for temporarily arresting movement of the sheaf-carrier and ejector tines.
