26,424. Stellings, R. Nov. 25. Protectors, construction of; countersunk tips. - A boot-protector consists of a canvas foundation a, a sheet of rubber b, and a moulded rubber wearing- surface c. The wearing - surface c is formed with a depression c', which follows the outer edge of the protector, and with one or more depressions c<2>, which are approximately at right-angles to the depression c<1>. Strips of leather through which the securing- nails are driven are inserted in these depressions. The pad may have air spaces formed below its highest parts, as shown in Fig. 2. The sheet b may be omitted. A protector on the heel of the boot may have the other part of the heel raised to its level by a leather pad.
