Abstract
25,254. Wart, H. M. de. Nov. 13. Dolls.-Relates to mechanism for moving the eyes of dolls, lay figures, wax figures, &c., of the type in which the eyes are capable of both lateral and closing movements. According to the invention the complete eye mechanism is mounted in a stationary frame fixed in the head of the figure and provided with eye openings. In one form, the eyeballs G, Fig. 2, are mounted in spherical shells F pivoted in fixed spherical shells C provided with eye-openings. Projecting rearwards from the eyes are rods g passing through slots in the shells F and connected by a rod h, formed or provided with a weight H. The shells F which serve as eyelids are connected by a cross-bar c carrying a pendulous weight d. During closing and opening of the eyes, the eyeballs and shells F move together, the eyeballs moving independently during their lateral movements. In another form, the weight H is dispensed with, the stem of the weight d being connected to the centre of the bar h, the weight d controlling both lateral and closing movements. In another form, Fig. 10, the eyeballs are pivoted on vertical pins m. The shells F<1> in this form are reduced to rings except for the portion forming the eyelid. In a further modification, Fig. 14, part of the eyeball is cut away, and the shells F" are still further reduced, leaving only the eye-lid and pivotal portions. The fixed and pivoted frames are provided with co-acting stops and projections to limit the movements of the eyeballs.
