Abstract

25,092. Powley, M., Powley, W., and Powley, W. Nov. 10. [Cognate Application, 3649/12.] Bottles, and jars, washing.-Comprises a construction of soaking-machine for bottles, jars, &c. of the type in which a skeleton wheel, rotating in a trough and arranged to support shelves on which the bottles are placed parallel to the axis of rotation, is provided with means for pushing round the bottles in the trough so that they may be fed in and delivered at opposite sides of the machine. One of the main features consists in special means for pushing round the bottles in the trough. Fig. 1 shows one construction of machine in which a pair of plate disks spaced to receive a single bottle are connected to spider arms f carried by hubs mounted on the central shaft g. To charge the machine with bottles, a plank is placed temporarily between projections j fixed near the outer edges of the plates and corresponding projections or grooves k provided on the hubs, and is retained in position until the trough is full. After removal of the plank, the projections j continue to move the bottles round the trough. A removable liner c or fixed wearing strips may be fitted to the trough. In some cases, the machine may be fitted with division plates and receive two or more sets of bottles. Fig. 4 shows a modified construction in which the projections on two loose wheels are tied together by bars p having inwardly-projecting plates q fixed thereto. Compartments, variable in width, for handling different sizes of bottles are formed by semicircular plates v sliding on the central shaft and fixed in position by set-screws. In each compartment, a plate x bent to an arc of a circle is fixed to one of the plates v. The plank rests on one of the ledges q while its inner edge slides on the periphery of the plate x. One of the wheels is toothed so that the machine can be rotated from a hand-wheel u.
