Heating by electricity. - In a continuous electric water-heater or steam-generator, water passes successively through tubes 5 of copper, brass, or the like, preferably carbon - lined, secured to conducting - heads 7, 7<1> having staggered connecting-passages 8, and is heated by current passing between the tubes and inner carbon electrodes 12. The inner electrodes are seated at one end in an insulating head 10, and pass at the other end through apertures in an insulating head 11 to a conducting head 13 connected to a terminal 22. The other terminal 21 is connected to the head 7<1>. The first and last of the inner electrodes are hollow and perforated, and connected to the inlet and outlet pipes 4, 6 respectively. The supply of water is controlled by a valve 16, connected by spur-wheels 17, 18 with a switch 20, so that the circuit is made only when water is flowing.
