Abstract

Tar-macadam, plant for making.-Relates to apparatus for making paving-material, of the kind in which the mineral aggregate, after being dried, is conveyed to a rotary chamber where it is mixed with a binding-material, and consists in providing in combination (1) a rotary mixing-chamber formed of a shell the ends of which are mounted eccentrically in concentric bearings so that the axis of the shell is inclined to the axis of rotation, and (2) internal mixing-blades separated from the shell. The rotary mixing-chamber M, shown in section in Fig. 1, is mounted at each end eccentrically in concentric plates M<1>, M<2>, so that, as the chamber rotates, a tumbling motion is imparted to the contents, which are fed forward by inclined blades P mounted on bars connected with the end plates. The aggregate, previously dried in cylinders 5, is conveyed to a hopper w and fed into the mixing-chamber by a worm W mounted in a casing provided with an inlet 42 for. the binding-material. The worm casing fits into the end plate M<2>, and a joint is made by means of a ring 48 so that, together with the closure M<3> at the other end, a practically gastight chamber is formed in which the binding- material and the mineral are intimately mixed and strongly heated. The casing of the mixing- chamber is provided with a jacket, shown in Fig. 7, formed of plates I with an intermediate layer of asbestos J and having a closure x operated from outside the apparatus, so that hot gases may be admitted to, or shut off from, the jacket. On releasing a catch 54 which fastens the door M<3>, the mixed material leaves the apparatus by means of a shoot 56.
