Abstract

23,596. Champigneul, V. Oct. 27, 1910, [Convention date]. Steam and other fluidpressure presses.-In a forging-press, means are provided for preventing the useless consumption of steam due to non- effective displacements of the forging - piston. The motive compressors are so combined with the system that their steam pistons are always brought to their starting positions, and so that the water - pipes connecting the water cylinders of the compressors to the press cylinder are always full before each fresh actuation of the steam pistons. The Figure shows the forging-piston a provided with lifting- pistons d, which are placed under constant lifting pressure. The low - pressure steam compressor i is connected to the pipe e through the valve m and to the compressed-air reservoir through the valve n and pipe p. The highpressure compressor g is connected directly to the pipe e. The approach of the forging-piston a takes place by the operation of the steam valve of the compressor i. This approach stroke may be immediately followed by the forging operation, since the cylinder c is full, by merely opening the steam valve of the compressor g. When the cylinder h is exhausting, the water which the compressor g has sent to the cylinder c returns, and the lifting-cylinders raise the piston a. In the same way as the compressor g, the compressor j reaches the exhaust stage and its piston descends to the end of the stroke, so that, owing to the displacement of the water piston, the water contained in the reservoir l passes through the valve n and returns to the cylinder k, which is ready for a new approach stroke. If, before producing a new approach stroke, it is necessary again to lift the forging- piston a, the valve r is lifted and the water in the press cylinder returned through pipes e, s to the reservoir l. The valve r may be dispensed with and replaced by a control means actuating simultaneously on the valves m, n. The lowpressure compressor i may drive water into two or more hydraulic devices provided on the press for pushing the forging-piston a down, during which operation the reservoir l effects the filling of the press cylinder c. Again, the compressor g may be arranged at the side of the press or even above the cylinder c.
