Capillary filters.-A capillary filter for lubricating-oil or other liquid comprises a chamber b for the impure liquid having walls b<3> of a partly-cylindrical form enclosing a compartment b<4> into which the liquid is delivered by wicks b<7>. The liquid is supplied from an upper chamber a through a valve a<3> opened by means of a rod b<2> attached to a float b<1>, and is passed through a central passage in the float to the bottom of the chamber b so that little disturbance is caused. The bottom of the chamber a is dished so that water will separate to the sides and can be discharged through a cock a<4>. The lid a<1> is dished and has a gauze strainer a<2>. The filtered liquid passes through a cock b<5> into a receiver c.
