Abstract

21,342. Wright, W. H. Sept. 27. Fluid governors; transmitting - mechanism. -A fluid - pressure governor 46 connects a sliding clutch member 36 with one or other of two oppositely rotating clutch members 34, 37 carried by bevel-wheels 24, 25. The member 36 is feather-keyed on the shaft 22 and acts on the throttle valve 2 through the worm 21, rack 20, and the lever 9. The lever 9 is pivoted to the valve spindle and on a bell-crank 15, a spring 19 carried by the bellcrank keeping the rack in gear with the worm. A spring 55 on the lever 9 and a stop 56 on the frame limit the upward movement of the rack. The bevelwheels 24, 25 are driven from a bevel-wheel 26 on the same shaft as a worm-wheel 28 which is driven by a worm 29, Fig. 2, formed on a sleeve 60 feather-keyed on the driving-spindle 30. At one end, the sleeve 60 is formed with face-cams corresponding to cams on a fixed collar 57, and is held up to this collar by a spring 62. As the spindle rotates, the sleeve, besides its rotary movement, oscillates along the spindle and momentarily reverses the direction of rotation of the bevel-wheels 24, 25, thus permitting the clutches to be easily disengaged. When the governor 46 acts by suction, the weight of the bell is balanced by the spring 47. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 4596/79, 5687/81, 824/86, 11,866/94, 23,475/07, and 17,850/08.
