Abstract

21,241. Lougee, F. G. Sept. 26. Time signals.-Matrix-drying presses are provided with a timing- device which is automatically brought into operation when the press is closed, and indicates the period of action of the press. A pointer b movable over a dial a graduated in minutes, and normally at rest in the zero position under the action of a counterweight &c., is automatically clutched to a constantly-running clockwork mechanism when the press is closed, and may sound an alarm after moving to a predetermined position. As the platen p is screwed down, a slidable plunger o thereon contacts the bed q, and a plate n on the plunger connects terminals m to complete a circuit through an electro-magnet g, which then attracts an armature h and engages friction disks i, j mounted on the pointer and clock-work spindles respectively so as to drive the pointer. When it is desired to sound an alarm, a circuit is provided containing the pointer, a bell e and a switch d adapted to contact with any of a series of terminals connected respectively with contact studs c on the dial. The clutch i, j may be operated mechanically, hydraulically, or pneumatically, instead of electrically.
