Abstract
21,192. Furse, A. D. Sept. 26. Composition fuel. - In making briquettes, ovoids, and similar articles from house or town refuse, sewage sludge, or the like, the material is finely pulverized after eliminating pieces of metal and drying it. In carrying out the process. the material may be (1) sorted, (2) partly disintegrated in a machine A, (3) freed from nails, wire, iron, and steel in a magnetic separator B, (4) elevated to a dryer E, (5) dropped into a pulverizer F, (6) elevated to a mixer J where it is mixed with a conglomerant such as shale oil, (7) passed to a pan mill G or similar kneading-machine and thence to a pugmill and briquette press from which the briquettes are conveyed to the hardening-ground. If a solid conglomerant such as asphalt is used, the mixture is dropped from the mixer J into a long metal case heated by gas, steam, or otherwise, and containing a screw conveyer adapted to pass the mixture to the press. The sequence, levels, and numbers of the machines may be varied, and the magnetic separator may be omitted.
