Abstract

21,086. Middleton, J. R., Barr, A., and Stroud, W. Sept. 25. Range-finders. - When photographs &c. in different positions of the object ranged on are available, they are suitably mounted, as shown in Fig. 8, and so arranged that the appropriate one can be brought into the field of view of a microscope, as shown in Fig. 5. The picture 1, by means of the composite eyepiece 23, is seen simultaneously with the object itself which is viewed through the broken telescope 20, 21, 22. The magnifying-power of either or both of the viewing-means is variable and a reading is taken when the two images appear to be of equal size. The instrument may be binocular.
