Actuating.-An electromagnetically-actuated gas-cock comprises a permanent magnet 9 of horse-shoe form pivoted at 10 at its centre of gravity and carrying a valve 7 by means of a spring 8. The poles of the magnet 9 lie between the poles 13, 15 of a pair of electro-magnets 14, 16 so that on sending a momentary current through the electro-magnet windings in one or other direction the permanent magnet oscillates from one position to the other and opens or closes the valve. The magnet 9 then remains in stable equilibrium as its magnetic circuit is completed through the core of the electromagnet with which it is in contact. The poles of one of the electro-magnets are extended to form secondary poles 18 which attract an armature 19 actuating a valve 20 of a carburetter igniter. The casing 5 is also provided with a push-button 21 for opening the valve by hand.
