Abstract

19,381. Tschernoff, D., and Sendzikowsky, M. Aug. 30. Ore processes.-Iron is produced from its ores in a gas-fired shaft furnace through the upper reduction portion C of which producer gas alone is passed, while the lower smelting portion D is heated by the combustion of gas and regeneratively heated air. The reduction portion is of such a length that by the time the charge has reached the level of the gas inlet b' the ore has been completely reduced to spongy iron which passes direct to the smelting portion D.
