Abstract

19,261. Gess, C. Jan. 3, [Convention date]. Tubes of bobbins.-A markedly conical tube adapted to be mounted upon a tapered arbor or driver and upon which yarn is wound has a stiff and roughened yarn-supporting surface and a smooth inturned and yielding end 5 which extends beyond the end of the driver. The tube is formed of a coiled sheet of paper pulp or other fibrous material, the upper edges of the several coils being flush with each other. The ridges 3 are preferably formed in the sheet material and extend from the bottom to near the top of the cone and are inclined in the direction in which the yarn is wound on the tube. The ridges at the top portion 6 are removed and the tip inturned by placing it within a revolving die. The operation also twists or circumferentially displaces the material, which thus becomes yielding. The direction of displacement is preferably in the direction of inclination of the ridges. Additional circumferential grooves 4 for preventing slipping of the yarn may be provided.
