[Cognate Application, 24,257/11.] Filtering-media. - A filtering-diaphragm is made by compressing layers of carded asbestos on a layer of muslin so that the two become closely interlocked. The diaphragm may be further reinforced by compressing a second layer of muslin on the top. Two layers cf asbestos may be used with an intermediate layer of carbon, agalite, or the like. Fig. 8 shows an element in which the laver of carbon is separated from the asbestos on either side by muslin or paper.
