Abstract

17,977. Pierce, J. Aug. 8. Seed distributors. - In a machine for sowing seeds in bunches or patches, a collecting-cup is provided at the upper end of seed-pipe pivoted on a bracket which is provided with a tongue or valve normally closing the outlet of the cup but arranged so that movement of the cup periodically uncovers the outlet. The bracket f on which the seed-pipe d is pivoted is attached to the seed bowl or hopper a, from which the seed is discharged through an adjustable outlet c by a brush b &c. The upper end of the pipe d forms the collecting-cup c, the outlet of which is normally closed by the curved tongue h on the bracket f, the pipe being held in position by a spring m. The pipe d is oscillated periodically by the engagement of a stud on a rotary disk with a pivoted arm l on the cup, or by other means. The speed of oscillation may be varied, and several seed-coutainers, or one long hopper, may be used.
