Abstract

[Cognate Application, 939/12.] Arc lamps. - In a multiple - electrode lamp, pairs of electrodes which have separate guides and are burnt in succession, are connected to separate feeding - drums D', D<2>, D<3> loosely mounted on a common shaft A carrying a wheel B forming part of feeding-mechanism of any kind. The drums are connected to the shaft through pawls and ratchet-wheels or equivalent devices. When a pair of electrodes is consumed, a volute cam X<1> on the corresponding drum tilts a lever H<1> or H<2> sufficiently to remove an arm of the lever from the path of a catch G' pivoted on the next drum. The catch is pressed by a spring against a stop on the latter drum. In a lamp having only two pairs of electrodes, the cam and catch may be on the outer sides of the drums and a single-armed lever, guided at its end, may be used.
