Sole-levelling and like.-A machine for embossing a heel on a shoe after the attachment of the upper to the outer sole, and at the same time pressing a permanent filler on the inside of the shoe, comprises upper and lower dies 19, 24, Fig. 1, carried respectively in an adjustable rotary holder 2, and at the head of a workholder 9, which is revolubly mounted in an arm 7 projecting from a sliding post 6 normally held depressed by a spring 5. A pin 13 and stop 14 serve to position the holder 9 with the lower die immediately underneath the upper die 19. Figs. 4 and 5 show the upper die, which is in two portions 16, 19 pivotally connected together by a pin 20; the upper member is integral with a stem 15 adapted to be inserted in the holder 2, and is threaded to receive adjusting-screws 17, 18. The lower member 19 has screwed to it a plate 21, which is formed with a heel-shaped recess 23 having a front bevelled portion 23<a> to form what is equivalent to the breast end of an ordinary heel, and a bevelled edge portion 23<b>, which serves to thicken the heel end of the sole. The lower die 24, Fig. 7, is somewhat smaller than the upper die, and is connected by a tongue and groove to the holder 9. It is recessed to receive spring-pressed pins 27, 28 for positioning a cemented filler 34, and its edge is channelled away, as shown at 24<a>, to prevent any liability of the die cutting through the stitching that secures the sole to the upper. Fig. 9 shows a turned boot after treatment in the machine, the embossed heel being shown at 40, and the inside of the boot being levelled by the filler 34.
