Abstract
16,361. Barbour, R. H. July 15. Controllers, induction type.-In a starter and controller of the induction type for slip-ring induction motors, a controlling-force is arranged in opposition to the magnetic force acting on the movable member of the controller. The controller may be of the construction described in Specifications 8489/11 and 20,512/11, with primary coils in series with the rotor windings, and secondaries arranged in inductive relationship with the primaries. In the form shown, the magnetic force is opposed by a spring 5 between an arm 3 on the controller spindle 1 and a handle 4. At starting, the handle 4 is moved to the full ' on ' position after the stator circuits have been closed. The spring then pulls over the arm 3 against the magnetic action between the primary and secondary windings. Similar apparatus may be used as an automatic speed regulator for varying loads. The spring 5 may be replaced by a weight on a disk so placed that it tends to turn the movable member in opposition to the action of the inductive windings. When the motor load increases, the increased current moves the controller member against the action of the weight to a position for lower speed.
