Abstract

16,256. Owens, J. S. July 14. Turbidometers.-An instrument for measuring the density of smoke from factory &c. chimneys by comparison with a graduated series of smoked glasses, comprises a revolving disk D having apertures A half filled with smoked glass. The disk is arranged in the focal plane of the objective of a telescope through which the smoke is observed, so that the smoke examined, the edges of the aperture, and the smoked glass are all in focus together. The telescope tube carries a calculating slide-rule of annular form.
