Abstract
13,899. Sprenger, E. June 10. Jet apparatus. - Granular material to be mixed with powdered material, or liquid, as in making concrete, artificial stone, &c., is subjected to a spray of the powder &c. while on the surface of a sieve, so that the largest granules are exposed to the spray for the longest time. The operation is performed in a rotary drum a carrying at one end a conical sieve b. The sieve b is formed of parallel-sided rods, so that the openings increase in size towards the broad end. The granular material is fed into the sieve b from the trough h, where it may be wetted, by the elevator g and screw f'. The powdered material is blown in through the pipe r' and may be moistened by sprays n<1>. The material which has been graded by the sieve b is remixed and mixed with the remaining powdered material by blades a<1> in the mixing-drum a. The powdered material is fed to the apparatus through a cylindrical valve q<1>, which is provided with an indicator moving over a scale and can be set in any position by a screw. The material is then ground between two rings p, one of which is provided with a groove p<1>, Figs. 3 and 4, in which work teeth p<2>, Fig. 5, on the other Gaps p<4> are formed in the walls of the groove p<1>. The material is treated on its way to the pipe r<1>. Several pipes r' for different powdered materials may be supplied, and some may be divided into the material which has passed through the sieve b, so as to supply the materials in any desired order. For instance, sand for mortar &c., may be coated first with Portland cement, then with slag cement, and then with hydraulic lime.
