Abstract

13,750. Howard, A. H. June 9. Corrugating; angular bending. - Electric cables with a spiral wire armouring are covered with a metal-strip casing either by spiral winding or by longitudinal folding, and over this a second wire is wound in helical corrugations formed in the strip covering. The longitudinal folding is effected by passing the strip through a series of rods. The corrugations are then formed by passing the cable through a machine having a revolving frame j carried on rollers h' in a fixed frame h. The revolving frame carries a chain of links k ... k<5>, the link k<3> having a part screw-thread upon it and this is forced down into the cable when the foot k<8> of the lever k<5> engages with any of the fixed rollers h<1>. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, the chain of links is replaced by a wire or cord m which is kept in proper pitch round the cable by flat springs carried on the support m<2>.
