Manures.-Lime, salt, sugar, glue, and gelatine are used as binding-agents for other ingredients which are made up in the form of tablets or pastilles for dissolving in water and applying to the soil as manures, insecticides, fungicides, &c. In cases where chemical action may take place between ingredients, they may be separated from one another in the tablet by a coating or envelope of one of the abovementioned materials. A manure tablet may consist of phosphate of potash, phosphate of ammonia, and protosulphate of iron with the binding-agent ; an insecticide of arsenite of lead, aceto-arsenite of copper, and the binding- agent; a fungicide of carbonate of copper and the binding-agent, the tablet being dissolved in water containing ammonia ; a worm-killer of mercury perchloride and salt. The Provisional Specification also states that liquid may be put up in the form of a capsule, encased in a gelatinous envelope, and mentions protosulphate of iron, super-phosphate of lime, sulphate of potash, and sulphate of ammonia as ingredients for a tablet.
