Abstract

Timing.-The pole-shoes 2 of magnetos for igniting in internal-combustion engines are provided with movable extension or flaps 3 adapted for retarded ignition to extend the effective areas of the pole-faces so that maximum sparking is obtained with retarded operation of the contact-breaker. The flaps 3 are moved into an inoperative position when the ignition is advanced by means of cams 15 mounted upon a rotable ring 14 connected by a link 12 to the lever 6 controlling the contact-breaker. According to the Provisional Specification, the pole extensions may be given a sliding or other movement.
