Rotary cylinder, prism, and like apparatus.- In an advertising - apparatus comprising a number of rotatable carriers c bearing letters or other characters, the carriers c are driven collectively and intermittently with dwells so that a different combination of characters is presented to view at each stoppage. The driving-mechanism may comprise a Maltese-cross m, actuated by a continuously driven pin-wheel n having a gap in its series of teeth to permit it to effect a dwell. Some of the carrier-surfaces may be left blank; and, if the advertisements are illuminated, the blank surfaces are preferably left dark. The letters may be illuminated in different colours.
