U-tube apparatus.-In feedwater-heaters of the type in which waste steam &c. pass through arched tubes in a casing containing the feedwater, the casing is made rectangular in plan and of an arched cross-section as shown. In the base of the casing are two chambers b, c for the admission and collection of the heating- medium to and from the tubes e. It is stated that the appliance acts as an exhaust-silencer or as a spark-arrester.
