May 18. #-Aziminoanthraquinone derivatives are obtained by oxidizing the azo dyes produced by combining #-diazoanthraquinone or derivatives thereof with #-naphthylamine or derivatives thereof. The products, when not containing more than one or two sulphonic groups, are vat dyes. According to examples, the following azo dyes are oxidized : -the monoazo dyes from #-diazoanthraquinone and 2-naphthylamine, 2- naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid, or 2-naphthylamine-3:6-disulphonic acid, the primary disazo dye from two molecular proportions of #-diazoanthraquinone and 2:6-naphthylenediamine, and the disazo dyes from tetrazotized 2:6-diaminoanthraquinone and 2-naphthylamine or 2- naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid; chlor- or nitro- #-aminoanthraquinones or #-aminoanthraquinone sulphonic acids are also specified as parent materials. The oxidizing-agents specified are sodium bichromate and sodium hypochlorite. Amino groups may be introduced into the dyes by nitrating and reducing. The products give yellow shades on cotton. Lakes.-The #-azimino derivatives above-described may also be used in the preparation of lakes.
