11,561. Stokes, R. O. May 12. Clutches. - An hydraulic clutch comprises a number of cylinders formed in the fly-wheel, the connecting-rods being connected to the crank on the driving-shaft. The outer ends of the several cylinders are connected to a valve chamber containing a duplex valve. The outer member of the duplex valve works in a division plate in the valve chamber, and the inner member works within the outer member. Fig. 1 shows the cylinders b formed within the fly-wheel, the ports k leading to the valve chamber, which is divided by the plate l, Figs. 3 and 5, secured to the crank e. The outer valve member m works in this plate and controls the flow of fluid through the port l<5>. The inner member n controls the passage m<3> through the member m, and is operated by the lever o and the spring n<1>. The lever o is connected to the outer member m by pins p carried by a trunnion ring p<1> and the slots in which these pins work allow sufficient lost motion to ensure the independent movement of the inner member n. The latter is held open by the spring n<1> and is closed by the screw q<1> carried by the cross-bar q secured to the lever o.
