Tethering animals; dog and like leaders.- A spring - closed hook capable of being opened from a distance and applicable to the tethering or leading of animals comprises in addition to the hook proper 1, Fig. 1, a spring-pressed or counterweighted closing- member 3, pivoted to the opposite arm of the hook and carrying a roller 3<a>, which presses against the hook 1. The tip of the member 3 is guided in a recess in the hook, and a releasing- cord 4 is attached to the member 3. Fig. 5 shows the hook applied to a dog lead, with the releasing-cord 4 attached to a leather strip 9 sliding in loops on the lead. For releasing a number of animals simultaneously from a staple or the like, the releasing-cord of a number of suitably-placed hooks are attached to a cord leading to a handoperated lever.
