Abstract

Fluid - actuated gears.-In tools having differential piston valves constantly exposed to fluid pressure, and an annular surface on the valve subjected to fluid pressure from the cylinder during the reversal of the valve, the exhaust from the cylinder is passed wholly or in part across the annular surface to exhaust ports leading from the valve chamber. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, main exhaust ports 44, 45 are provided in the cylinder wall, and an anxiliary exhaust from the inner end of the cylinder through ports 37 across the annular surface 27 of the valve to the outlet ports 38, and through a port 34 and the annular recess 30 to the outlet 38 when the valve is reversed. An auxiliary exhaust is provided from the forward end of the cylinder through a port 42, across the surface 27, and through ports 38. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the ports 44, 45 are dispensed with, and passages 46, 47 provided with ports 48-51 are arranged in the cylinder wall, and communicate with the surface 27 of the valve, and outlet passages 52, 53 from the valve chest. The main exhaust from the inner end of the cylinder takes place through ports 48, 50 and passages 46, 47, and an auxiliary exhaust through port 34 as in the arrangement shown in Fig. 1. The main exhaust from the forward end of the cylinder passes through ports 49, 51 and passages 46, 47, and the auxiliary exhaust .through port 42 as described above. The movement of the valve in one direction is, in each arrangement described, effected by the compression in the cylinders.
